One of the most insane album I've ever listened to. It's not necessarily what I'd designate as "good/beautiful music", this is mostly a troubling immersion in the ultimate perversity and madness. More precisely, In Jeraspunta is: Incredible & tortured vocals, dissonent & unstructured compositions,...  This album is a pure audial blasphemy

Having been disappointed to hear of the split Austere, I didn't take long time to put all my enthusiasm in Woods of Desolation (some members of WoD were playing in Austere). I think it wouldn't be exaggerate to say that "Torn Beyond Reason"  is the outcome of Austere, the culmination of depressive black metal. The music mainly consists in a seductive representation of desolated atmospheres: beautiful guitar melodies and rending screams emerging from a wall of massive riffs. After a demonstration of DSBM (or BDSM if you prefere *haha*), the album ends on  an instrumental interlude "November" and exalted clean vocals (a bit too much in the background) "Somehow"…

I'm sure you already know this band and the other great O'Malley's projects (Khanate, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine,...) but I still wanted to post my favorite release of this well-known band. I begin to precise that we are no longer in a purely minimalist genre but now in an very complex and inspired art. Once more O'Maley has recruited the unique and incantatory voice of Attila Csihar.The result is really dark, physical and emotional. It's also unavoidable to mention the chilling beauty of the female choirs (on the two central tracks). This rich and varied album ends on apotheosis with a jazzy track ("Alice"). 

The best and the most musical album of the band.

Comment:

Necrite’s debut album is an interesting attempt to bring drone metal influences to an atmospheric black metal sound. Demonic vocals (remind me Lurker of Challice), cacophonous riffing, the drums are a highlight (it provides more depth to the music, especially in the ambient part). It's impressive but there's some repetitive moments. Avant garde, sticky, sulphurous, anxious, even psychopathic atmospheres. You'll fall into a sort of hypnosis that will bring you in a multitude of emotions, from the purest to the most unhealthy.

Comment:

Stoner/sludge doom in the vein of Electric Wizard (Born from the departure of several members of Electric Wizard) and Sleep. Rasping vocals, heavy and primal riffs: the atmosphere is raw, stinky, dark, insane and dirty.  A special mention to Iron Crow. Awful cover but don't pay attention to it, only music matters.

Comment:

There is no word to describe this masterpiece. There is two bands I really "venerate": Darkspace & Paysage d'Hiver. Steineiche is the first P.H's demo and certainly the best work of Wintherr. A minimalistic and powerful music with Dark ambient influences. We can illustre this music by an icy, isolate and austere landscape inhabitated by a scratchy sound, lost and remote screams taken by the blizzard, and a constent howling wind reverberating between the mountain sides.

Comment:

Black Metal with bells, organs and choirs. Guitar strangely reminds me Surf music, don't ask me why. Great riffs sometimes near to Celtic Frost, particular vocals,.... A macabre and carnival-esque atmosphere; Negative Plane mixes 60's horror films with Edgar Allan Poe's books, the whole with a big dose of improper ingredients.
